Problem:
“Userenv Event ID: 1525
Windows has detected that Offline Caching is enabled on the Roaming Profile share – to avoid potential profile corruption, Offline Caching must be disabled on shares where roaming user profiles are stored.”
I recently came across a problem where the above message was being added to the event viewer every time a user logged in.
Cause:
In my case the message was correct, we had recently moved our profile share onto a new server creating a new share in the process and not disabled caching.
Offline Caching must be turned off on profile shares as Windows implements it own profile replication mechanism and if Caching is enabled it can cause problems the worst of which can be corrupt profiles.
Solution:
To disable caching on a single share
- Open Computer Manager on your file server
- System Tools => Shared Folders => Shares
- Right-click => Properties on your profile share
- Caching
- Un-tick “Allow caching of files in this shared folder”
- OK
- OK
